E-SpeedControl

Speed test roller for e-scooters | e-bikes | mopeds and scooters with combustion engines

Intended use

The E-Speed Control device is not a speed measuring device and is only used to detect suspected violations.

Suspicion means: The vehicle has been manipulated or does not comply with the law.

If manipulation or non-compliance is suspected, the maximum possible speed of the vehicle can be determined on a speed test track (e.g., road traffic authority) or with a standard speed measuring device (e.g., radar), depending on the prescribed procedure.

The E-Speed Control device only measures the maximum wheel speed of the vehicle, which may or may not correspond to the maximum possible speed of the vehicle, as air and rolling resistance cannot be taken into account with this measurement method.

Air and rolling resistance, and thus the braking effect of the vehicle, depend on various factors and can vary greatly depending on the driver (tall, short, light, heavy), vehicle type (electric, gasoline), transmission type (1-speed, variator, multi-speed transmission), max. engine power, max. drive torque, headwind, etc.

Therefore, only the maximum possible theoretical vehicle speed can be measured indirectly via the wheel speed.

The E-Speed Control device is calibrated by the Swiss calibration authority METAS and has a test certificate.

Story

For over 25 years, we have been successfully supplying our customers with automation solutions for highly productive machine tools.

So how did we come to develop a speed test roller for the police?

In 2020, a contact at the Zurich cantonal police force led to the creation of the first prototype of the E-SpeedControl. The need for a speed test roller arose due to the increase in electric two-wheelers, some of which exceed the permitted maximum speeds by a considerable margin, thereby endangering road safety. E-SpeedControl has now been successfully introduced in many Swiss police forces.
